Fight Back for Ukraine

Our purpose: To save Ukrainian lives, and enable Ukraine's Army to prevail against Putin.

Fight Back for Ukraine is a volunteer-run organization founded in March of 2022. A full 100% of any contributions goes toward the purchase of equipment delivered directly into the hands of Ukrainians forced to defend their lives, families, and livelihoods from Russian invasion.

The map below, which I created for LUC's 30DayMapChallenge in November 2022, may hold point data of fatalities for a large part in central and eastern Ukraine, turned into a type of heatmap from March to October 2022. However, what this map cannot express is the pain, the bloodshed, the loss that the Ukraine and world has witnessed.

I had the chance to converse with Ukrainians throughout the year due to the amazing work at Fight Back For Ukraine. It was inspiring and harrowing. When my exposure to atrocities – in particular sexual violence - hit a high, I was hurdled into a dark place. Insomnia and nosebleeds were the least of my worries – The goal was to keep people engaged, and frankly worried as well as empathic to the Ukraine war.

In the end, numbness - towards atrocities and politics won - and became my companion. A way to self-preserve. Ukrainians do not have the same liberty.
